| Seasons at The Woodview Seasons
at The Woodview provides a safe, secure and comfortable environment
for residents suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease or
other forms of dementia. The state-of-the-art community,
designed by architects knowledgeable about the needs of persons
with dementia, features living spaces, bedrooms and outdoor
areas that enhance a resident’s ability to function
as independently as possible.
Our special care community is
of the “household design” with
each private bedroom placed around and in view of shared living
spaces. Issues such as natural light, space and room design
have been care-fully considered with comfort and safety in
mind.
Families are encouraged to help decorate
their loved one’s room with familiar
items from home such as a comfy chair and family photographs.
We understand that our residents like to wander, so “memory
boxes” are located at the entrance to each room to serve
as a “way-finding” tool. Chairs and benches are
placed throughout the building to encourage rest stops. If
residents carry things from their rooms and leave them elsewhere,
that’s okay. Our staff understands. If residents enjoy
helping prepare a meal, setting the table, doing laundry
or working in the garden, that’s okay. It’s okay,
too, if they choose not to.
Our country kitchen serves as a
gathering place for residents, families and staff. A cup
of coffee can be enjoyed at any time,
and the smell of fresh baked bread encourages vigorous appetites.
Meals are eaten family style with special attention given
to likes, dislikes and dietary restrictions. Snacks are available
right in the kitchen and residents are encouraged to help
themselves
whenever they wish. For those who need reminding or assistance
in eating, our staff is there to help.
Our living areas are
cozy places to meet for special events or just to visit.
Decorated and sized like those in a typical
family household, these areas provide a feeling of comfort
and warmth.
For residents who enjoy being outdoors,
Seasons at The Woodview has a specially designed Serenity
Garden.
The completely
enclosed area is a safe place to be. Its continuous walking
paths require
no decision making; no left or right turns to get home, as
paths lead directly back to the porches and into the building.
Sturdy benches provide opportunities for rest stops along
the way. Residents may enjoy the raised-bed vegetable and
herb
gardens, watch the butterflies and birds, smell the flowers
or simply stand under the shade of a tree.
Each individual
living at Seasons at The Woodview has a personalized plan
of care jointly developed by the staff, the resident
and family members. The daily routine offers enough structure
to
help residents feel secure, but is flexible enough to allow
a sense of freedom. Our staff recognizes that each resident
is a unique human being and works closely with family members
to learn each person’s life story. Does the resident
normally dress before or after breakfast? Is he a night owl
or an early riser? Does he prefer chocolate chip or oatmeal
cookies? What is his favorite hymn? We want to know each
resident so that we can help him remain connected to his
past. Because,
for the most part, the past is the place where people with
Alzheimer’s Disease spend most of their time. We want
to go there with them.
Our residents are offered a wide variety
of structured social, spiritual, physical and creative activities.
Music, art,
movement, gardening, chapel, hymn sings, picnics and outings
are all
part of life at Seasons at The Woodview. Individualized
activity plans are designed based on each person’s
life history, current interests and abilities. Residents’ families
often join us for daily activities and special events. We
love it when they do.
